The path of the Caminito del Rey
In parallel to the railroad tracks, it runs through the Gaitanes and Gaitanejo gorges. Its origin dates back to 1921 when King Alfonso XII after the inauguration of the dam of the Count of Guadalhorce crossed the previously constructed road. From this moment it was called Caminito del Rey. After several years of disuse and deterioration due to lack of maintenance and control, it became the most dangerous path in Europe causing numerous victims. As of March 2015, it was conditioned and open to the public, assuming a 7 km route without any risk for visitors and is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in all of Europe.
