Italica, the Roman city

With this excursion we will travel in history visiting the ancient Roman city of Itálica located in the vicinity of Seville in the neighboring town of Santiponce in Sevillian Aljarafe. In the same locality we will take advantage to also know its ancient Roman theater and the impressive monastery of San Isidoro del Campo ending our excursion with a tasting of wines and olives typical of the region in some popular winery of the town.

Our driver / guide will pick us up at 9:30 to direct us to Italica. There a specialist guide will be waiting for us to begin an explanatory tour of all the riches of this city founded in the year 206 a.c. They emphasize the amphitheater, the temple of Trajano (Traianeum), the termas called “majors” or “of the queen dwells” and the different houses. At the end of the visit we will continue our tour on foot with our driver / guide through the town of Santiponce to see the Roman theater and the enigmatic monastery of San Isidoro del Campo. The history of this monastery is imbued with important religious and artistic events. In the sixteenth century one of the first foci of the Spanish Reformation developed in it, reading and translating in its interior, books forbidden by the Inquisition.

We will end our tour with a small tasting of the wines and olives typical of Aljarafe in a popular Santiponce winery. We will be back in Seville at 2:30 p.m.

The children will enjoy the beautiful with the Itálica Amphitheater where they can become gladiators for a morning!
